The Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A – also known as the Brasileirao – is Brazil’s top tier football competition.

Consisting of 20 clubs, the competition operates a classic promotion/relegation system with each club playing 38 games across the course of a season.

At the end of the campaign, the worst four teams are relegated to Serie B while the four best teams from the second division go on to replace them.

The top six clubs of Serie A also qualify for Copa Libertadores while teams placed from seventh to twelfth qualify for Copa Sudamericana.
